In the book, Huck wants to turn Jim in, but his conscience says maybe thats not such a good idea because maybe Jim would do something to Huck when he got free. Another one would be when Jim gets arrested for his escape of slavery. Huck decides to free Jim because he likes Jim and he's been there when he needed Jim. Huck conscience kicks in and he and Tom try to get Jim out of the barn.
I think that influences are still at work today because I think that people could make the right decisions, but they don't.
The forces that are available to try to change the "deformed conscience" are consoling. When people feel they need to do something wrong, they can get help from the consolers. In Huck Finn, Huck learns from the duke and the king. Then he realizes that what they are doing is wrong, so he does what is best for him and he doesn't listen to the king and the duke much anymore. Huck thinks that either the duke or the king turned him in so maybe he changes some of his ways.
